HACCP CONSULTANCY

Food businesses are increasingly expected to have formal systems for managing food safety. The most commonly known is the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) system. The HACCP system has been developed nearly 30 years ago for astronauts by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. What is clear is that all food businesses need to use some or all of the principles of HACCP.

HACCP offers a number of advantages, most importantly, HACCP:

  • focuses on identifying and preventing hazards from contaminating food
  • is based on sound science
  • is verifiable and auditable
  • ensures proper record keeping
  • places responsibility for ensuring food safety on the food manufacturer or distributor
  • helps food companies compete more effectively in the world market
  • reduces barriers to international trade

The HACCP consultancy program is developed to advise companies towards an established HACCP system, and subsequently to attain HACCP certification. The program is structured to include the review of compliance towards the HACCP requirements, procedures drafting, and setting up of system. The program is customized and scheduled to suit the availability of the company.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission advises that minimum hygiene measures should be in place before HACCP is implemented. The GMP system identifies the essential principles of hygiene, provides a guideline for specific codes which may be needed for different industries and sectors and amplify the hygiene requirements specific to those areas. A GMP system covers the manufacture, design, packaging, labeling, storage, delivery, installation and servicing of finished products.

The GMP consultancy program is developed to advise companies towards an established GMP system, and subsequently to attain GMP certification. The program is structured to include the review of compliance towards the GMP requirements, procedures drafting, and setting up of system. ISO 22000 CONSULTANCY

There is an increase in the customer demand for safe food. This has lead food processing companies to develop food safety management systems, which are based on HACCP. ISO has undertaken the development of an auditable standard, which further defines HACCP's role in a food safety management system. This standard is not intended to define the minimal regulatory requirement, however, it is intended to define the requirements for companies that desire to exceed the regulatory requirements for food safety.

This International standard specifies the requirements for a food safety management system that combines the following generally recognized key elements to ensure food safety along the food chain, up to the point of final consumption:

  • interactive communication

  • system management

  • prerequisite program

  • HACCP principles

The ISO 22000 consultancy program is developed to advise companies towards an established ISO 22000 system, and subsequently to attain ISO 22000 certification.
